What a beautiful sunrise, and start of the Spring 2023 semester!
What a beautiful sunrise, and start of the Spring 2023 semester!
The Psychology Department gathered to celebrate the end of a productive year. We officially received approval for a new undergraduate program: B.S. in Psychology with an emphasis in Neuroscience. This is a huge accomplishment, and many years in the making. Cheers to all of our hard working colleagues!
Our Social Psychology of Cults class had the great privilege of learning about outreach services provided by Genesis Women’s Shelter (genesisshelter.org). Students appreciated the opportunity to gain insights about the cycle of abuse, domestic violence, and trauma recovery. Genesis also announced exciting developments in our neck of the woods – a new location serving South Dallas. Finally, if you have never visited the Genesis thrift store (off Lemmon Ave.), you most certainly should! Not only do proceeds support the shelter, they have amazing high quality clothing… a thrift store like no other. Many thanks to Sam and John for taking the time to talk with us!
It was my extreme pleasure to speak to the League of Women Voters of Dallas about forms of social influence, prejudice, and the formation of extreme beliefs. My fellow presenter discussed the effects of misinformation. We had a lively discussion about current events and building relationships. Many thanks to the wonderful members of LWVD for this opportunity! My presentation can be found here: https://bit.ly/3fVR3by , and below is Dr. Schroeder’s presentation. Enjoy!
The title says it all. Exciting times at UNT Dallas!
Yesterday the UNT-Dallas community gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the historic Ryan Tower. This tower is a representation of substantial growth and progress at the university. It is exciting to be a part of the institution’s growth. Here is to more exciting developments to come! Up next: the new STEM building.
It is so great to be back on campus and seeing students face-to-face! This year’s career fair was an exciting start to the academic year, and a valuable resource for the Psychology Interns. We are so grateful for all of the organizations who have partnered with us to help students achieve career readiness and gain hands on experience.
One of my interests is art and design. I hadn’t realized that I had created this many projects, until this award pleasantly appeared after completing my last project. I figured I’d share this badge and promote the Canva website at the same time. I really do enjoy using the platform, it is incredibly user friendly and, most importantly, free!
This is not a paid promotion… but it could be if you are interested, Canva.
The Psychology Department held our annual retreat at Escape the Room Dallas. We attempted the Western Bank Heist which, according to our hosts, “…may have looked tough upon first glance but these fine few were brave, clever and absurdly good at puzzle solving which led to their amazing efforts in escaping Western Bank Heist at Escape the Room Dallas.” It was amazing fun and a wonderful team building exercise. We look forward to another escape room challenge next year!
The 2022 UNT-Dallas Psychology Career Day was a huge success! Psychology faculty developed this program specifically for undergraduate Psychology majors. Students had a full day of networking, skill development, and, most importantly, the opportunity to learn valuable career and life lessons from panelists and alumni. We are incredibly grateful for the efforts of all who contributed to make the event impactful and memorable. We are already planning next year’s Career Day, so please reach out if you would like to contribute to the professional development of our students.
